Information on Doctoral thesis of Fellows Dang Viet Ha

6. Changes in academic process:

- According to Decision No. 1521/QĐ-ĐHGD, dated October 16, 2017, issued by the Rector of the University of Education, I was assigned the doctoral research topic: “Applying the “Human resource management” approach to develop high school management staff in Hanoi city”. My academic supervisors were Associate Professor Dr. Tran Khanh Đuc and Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Chi Thanh.

 - On May 4, 2018, I was allowed to edit the research topic to “High school administration based on autonomy and accountability approach”. This change was approved under Decision No. 603/QĐ-ĐHGD, dated May 4, 2018, issued by the Rector of the University of Education, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU-UED). Additionally, my academic supervisor was changed under Decision No. 2559/QĐ-ĐHGD, dated December 31, 2021, in which the university appointed Professor Dr. Le Ngoc Hung to replace Associate Professor Dr. Tran Khanh Đuc.

- On July 16, 2020, I was allowed by the University to extend my study time to complete my thesis according to Decision No. 968/QD-DHGD.

- On July 11, 2022, I was returned to my work agency by the University according to Decision No. 1142/QD-DHGD. On April 25, 2024, I completed my thesis and was allowed to return to school to defend my thesis according to Decision No. 1150/QD-DHGD.

- On June 19, 2024, I was permitted to revise the research topic to “Management of public High schools in Hanoi in the context of educational reform”, as per Decision No. 1784/QĐ-ĐHGD, dated June 19, 2024, issued by the Rector of the University of Education, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU-UED).

11. Summary of the new findings of the thesis:

11.1. Theoretical Contributions

- The thesis has contributed to systematizing and clarifying a number of theoretical issues about school management, management of high school teaching activities, high school management according to the change management approach: Clarifying tool concepts such as: high school definition, school management, change management, teaching, teaching activities and management of teaching activities in public high schools.

- The thesis determines the content of activities of high schools, teaching activities and management of teaching activities in high schools according to the Circular No. 18/2018/TT-BGDĐT, which establishes regulations on education quality accreditation and national standard recognition for lower secondary and upper secondary schools; Circular No. 32/2020/TT-BGDĐT, which sets forth the charter for lower secondary schools, upper secondary schools, and multi-level schools; and Circular No. 14/2018/TT-BGDĐT, dated July 20, 2018, issued by the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET), which provides regulations on the professional standards for school principals in general education of institutions. Additionally, Official Letter No. 5122/BGDDT-GDTrH, dated December 18, 2020, regarding the development and implementation of school education plans, is considered. The dissertation defines the management content of teaching activities in high schools from the perspective of change management, applying Kotter’s eight-step change management theory to enhance the effectiveness of high school management in the context of the ongoing curriculum reform in Vietnam.

 - The thesis identifies factors affecting the management of teaching activities at Hanoi public high schools according to the change management approach.

11.2. Practical Contributions

- Analyze and evaluate the current status of the management of teaching activities at Hanoi high schools according to the change management approach (achieved results, weak areas that need to be overcome, find the causes leading to the stated situation).

 - Proposing solutions for managing teaching activities at public high schools in Hanoi according to a scientific and practical educational management approach will contribute to helping leaders and managers of public high schools in Hanoi improve the effectiveness of managing teaching activities and building a culture of innovation in the school, creating an advanced educational environment, meeting the requirements of the 2018 General Education Curriculum. This curriculum is oriented toward "Strongly shift the educational process from mainly equipping knowledge to comprehensively developing learners' capacity and qualities" (Ministry of Education and Training (2018), Education and Training Program 2018)

12. Practical applicability, if any:

The research topic provides scientists, managers and educational policy planers with a picture of the current status of teaching management activities in public high schools in Hanoi city in the context of educational innovation and the measures to manage change in high schools according to the Kotter model as a basis for scientists, managers and educational policy planers continue to research and propose policies to improve the quality of teaching at high schools in the context of change. new education.
