Ms. Nguyen Bich Yen is one of the world’s leading experts in semiconductor technology, with over 40 years of extensive experience in researching, developing, and commercializing integrated circuit technologies and advanced materials. She has had an outstanding career at Motorola Corporation and later at Soitec - a world-class technology group in next-generation semiconductor materials.
With more than 200 patents granted worldwide and over 350 scientific publications, Ms. Bich Yen is not only an exceptional scientist but also a pioneer in the development of advanced SOI (Silicon on Insulator) technologies, making significant contributions to the advancement of 5G, AIoT, and smart automotive industries. Her innovations and technologies have generated billions of dollars in revenue for leading global tech corporations.
In addition, she has been honored with numerous prestigious international awards, including the Dan Noble Fellow - Motorola's highest technical award, IEEE Fellow, and most recently, the 2024 IEEE Frederik Philips Award for her outstanding contributions to the research, development, and application of semiconductor material technologies.
The appointment of Ms. Nguyen Bich Yen as Honorary President of the Institute of Semiconductors and Advanced Materials by VNU not only marks a significant advancement in the Institute’s academic and research pursuits but also represents a strategic move by VNU to realize the objectives of the Politburo’s Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW and the Vietnamese Government’s Semiconductor Industry Development Strategy to 2030 and vision for 2050.
This collaboration strengthens VNU’s capacity for international engagement, promotes the training of high-quality human resources, and fosters the development of a robust ecosystem for advanced technology research in Vietnam.

Speaking at the ceremony, VNU Vice President Pham Bao Son remarked that expert Nguyen Bich Yen is a symbol of creativity and world-class expertise in the global semiconductor industry. Her collaboration will be a valuable asset in elevating the Institute of Semiconductors and Advanced Materials, while accelerating the strategic objectives of the national technology development. He also hoped that Ms. Bich Yen would serve as a bridge connecting organizations and individuals in this field worldwide.
VNU Vice President Pham Bao Son emphasized that, under the development orientation of VNU Technology and Innovation Park, semiconductor technology will be one of the key pillars, closely linked with other critical areas such as artificial intelligence, advanced materials, and electronic components.

Speaking at the appointment ceremony, Ms. Nguyen Bich Yen shared that her connection with the academic environment has always been a deep passion, as universities are the birthplace of breakthrough ideas and a vital bridge between scientific research and industry. She emphasized that many of her and her colleagues' inventions and patents originated from teaching and research activities within universities.
She also pledged to leverage her extensive experience collaborating with leading global technology corporations to support VNU in completing the proposal for establishing a National Center for IC Design, Fabrication, and Testing Support. Through this, she aims to contribute to the sustainable development of the Institute of Semiconductors and Advanced Materials, and to the successful implementation of the Government’s and VNU’s strategic action programs.
